Updated - Tragic biker to be laid to rest

The motorcyclist involved in a serious collision in Saughton Road North on Friday night (May 2nd) has died as a result of his injuries.

Lothian and Borders Police press release

He has been named as 24-year-old Gordon Strachan, of Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh. Mr Strachan passed away last night at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Police are issuing a fresh appeal for witnesses to the collision, which happened at around 6.10pm, at the junction of Saughton Road North and Tyler's Acre Avenue.

They are interested in speaking to anyone who noticed the motorcyclist in the moments before he collided with the Blue Fiat car also involved in the collision.

Anyone else who witnessed the collision who hasn't yet contacted police are also being urged to come forward.

A police spokesman said: 'We would like to speak to anyone - motorist or pedestrian - who was in the area and saw what happened.

'We know that the motorcyclist travelled through Corstorphine High Street towards the accident scene, and we ask that anyone who saw the black motorbike in that area at the time to get in touch.

'We also want to speak to those motorists who were in a moving queue of traffic on Saughton Road North and noticed the motorcyclist immediately prior to the collision, and who left the scene shortly afterwards, perhaps not realising the severity of the incident.

'In particular, we want to speak to a taxi driver driving a black cab who we know was in this queue of traffic area at the time, as well as another motorist.'

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.

Tragic biker to be laid to rest

THE funeral of Gordon Strachan is to be held at Sauchie Parish Church, Clackmannanshire, next week.

Mr Strachan, 24, of Bruntsfield Place, was killed last week after his motorcycle collided with a car on Saughton Road North.

Parents Linda and Alan said he had never regained consciousness after being knocked out in the crash.

Mr Strachan, who was originally from Sauchie, had been working as a delivery driver for a city branch of Pizza Hut.

The service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 13th, and all family and friends are invited.
