23-year-old woman assaulted at entrance to city park
A 23-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed as she walked in an Edinburgh street last night. The attack happened at around 8.35pm, in King Stables Road. The woman had walked into King Stables Road from Lothian Road when she became aware of footsteps behind her. As she crossed over at the entrance to West Princes Street Gardens she was grabbed from behind by a man who pressed an object against her throat. He demanded she hand over her handbag, and a brief struggle took place before the suspect made off towards Lothian Road with the handbag. As a result of the struggle the woman suffered superficial wounds, for which she received hospital treatment. The suspect is described as white, around 5ft 8ins tall, 18 to 22-year-old, skinny build, and with a local accent. He was wearing a pale grey hooded top with a grey scarf. A police spokesman said: 'This was a nasty assault on a young woman which left her requiring hospital treatment for her injuries. 'We want anyone who was in the area at time and witnessed the incident, or who may have noticed the suspect in the area at the time, to contact police immediately. 'Similarly, anyone who recognises his description should also get in touch.' Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111. Local Police News and Information
