Today in History

1796: A landmark in medical history today when Edward Jenner makes the first smallpox vaccination in 1796. By infecting a boy with cowpox (a much less dangerous infection) he was able to make him immune to the more dangerous and disfiguring smallpox.

Fountainbridge provides the right space, the right image

LLOYDS TSB has signed a deal to move into a new office in the city.

The firm has signed a lease for the top floor of the Edinburgh Quay 2 development at Fountainbridge on the banks of the Union Canal.

It is the third financial heavyweight to move into the development, following earlier deals by Barclays and Baker Tilly.

The deal, for 3000sq ft of business space, will see the bank's private equity subsidiary LDC establish its first permanent office in Edinburgh.

Pamela Grant, director of Edinburgh Quay Ltd, said: "The Lloyds deal reflects the quality of space taken and as our third finance corporation, reaffirms the growth and strength of the financial sector in Edinburgh."

Chris Street, senior estates manager for Lloyds TSB, said: "LDC wanted a small, high quality office which will become their public face. Quay 2 provided the right space, the right corporate image and the right level of accessibility."
