Two men steal mobile phone from driver

Heartless thieves robbed a diabetic driver of his mobile phone after his car crashed in Edinburgh yesterday afternoon (February 27).

Lothian and Borders Police press release

The 45-year-old man was driving his Ford Fiesta at about 3pm on Dundee Street near to the Fountainpark complex when he took ill at the wheel and crashed into an MG, another Ford Fiesta and a Lexus.

Two men came to supposedly help the diabetic driver but instead stole his mobile phone and made off down Dundee Street into Yeaman Place and Polwarth Crescent.

No one else was injured in the crash which happened about 20 metres west of the junction with Viewforth. Only minor damage was caused to the vehicles involved.

The two men are described as white, about 20 to 30 years, medium build with short brown hair.

The victim did not need any medical treatment.

A police spokesman said: 'This was a despicable incident where two men pretended to be Good Samaritans but instead robbed the victim of his mobile phone.

'That part of Dundee Street is usually fairly busy and we would urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the two men making off afterwards to contact police.'

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
