47-year-old man assaulted and robbed
Police are trying to trace two witnesses who may have seen a man being assaulted and robbed in the Fountainbridge area of Edinburgh last night (December 18th).
The 47-year-old was walking through Gardners Crescent with his girlfriend at about 9pm, when two men approached him. One of them punched him in the ribs, knocking him to the ground, before making off with his wallet. The victim was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he was treated for his injuries. One of the suspects is described as white, 6ft tall, and in his 30s. He was wearing a black woollen hat and a dark combat-type jacket at the time. The other is white, 5ft 9ins tall, and in his 30s, and was wearing a dark baseball cap and a black fleece jacket. Police are keen to talk to the people who came to the victim's aid following the assault - including a man who provided a blanket and another man who was walking a dog. A police spokeswoman said: 'Although not seriously hurt, the victim was left needing treatment in hospital as a result of this attack. We believe the men who came to his aid could provide vital leads in tracing those responsible, and would urge them to contact police as soon as possible.' Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111. Source: Lothian and Borders Police
