1870:
David Octavius Hill, pioneering Scottish photographer, died. Born in 1802, Hill is often credited with being the first person to use photography as an aid to painting. Together with Robert Adamson he produced more than 1,500 photo-portraits of Scotland's great and good.

Film, music, dance, poetry, song, the story of our Scotland
A DIVERSE, multicultural event will be held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre as part of St Andrew's Day celebrations.
Our Scotland is a multimedia presentation incorporating film, music, dance poetry and song that aims to tell the story of the nation's multicultural history. The event features a samba band, Gaelic choir, break-dancers with a bhangra sound-track, musicians from Ghana, Chinese dance, Scottish/African fusion music and an Irish ceilidh band.
