Complaints from public leads to new initiative

Lothian and Borders Police press release

Offenders abusing the Greenways system in Edinburgh are being targeted in a new initiative.

Evening patrols of the five Greenways routes in the city will be carried out by the Traffic Support Wardens from Lothian and Borders Police from Monday night (May 21st).

The routes are:

  • The A8 Glasgow Road
  • The A900 Leith Walk
  • The A702 Lothian Road
  • The A71 Dalry/Gorgie Road
  • The A70 Slateford Road

Attention will be given to double red line parking offences, which all have a 24-hour enforcement period. The offence carries a £30 fixed penalty ticket and the vehicle is liable to be immediately impounded.

Inspector David Legge, of Lothian and Borders Road Policing Branch, said: "Parking on these double red lines at any time can create a serious danger to all our city road users. In these situations, pedestrians and cyclists are particularly exposed to moving traffic where the driver can be unsighted and has to deviate from a proper course.

"The selfish actions of these illegal parkers compromise the public's expectation of safer roads and safer communities at all times."
