The main festival venue changed to St Cuthbert's Church

THE Edinburgh Festival of Music, Speech and Dance has been moved forward by three months, from May to February 2008.

Festival administrator Andrew Rushworth said the move was to ensure that the festival, which attracts more than 1500 participants, would not clash with school exams that are sat by many in May and June.

The main venue for the festival has also changed, from the former site in Stockbridge to St Cuthbert's Church on Lothian Road.

The dance section has undergone changes in recent years, and 2008 will again see the classes taking place in the new Telford College, with categories covering ballet, jazz, tap, ethnic and Scottish country dancing.

Established in 1920, the festival is now in its 88th year. It provides a platform for performers of all levels, offering an opportunity to take part in front of specialist judges who offer invaluable advice to the young musicians, dancers and actors.

The closing date for entry for the 2008 festival is November 30th. The syllabus is available from the Central Music Library, music shops in central Edinburgh and on the Edinburgh Competition Festival Association website at www.ecfest.org.uk.
