Golf was formalised at St Andrews with the foundation of the St Andrews Society of Golfers. Twenty-two ‘Noblemen and Gentlemen’ contributed to a silver club to be played for annually over the Links of St Andrews. The first winner was Baillie William Landale, a St Andrews merchant, who became Captain for the year.

Additional tickets being snapped up...
Tickets for Scotland's crucial Euro 2008 qualifier against Lithuania, at Hampden Park on Saturday 8th September are selling fast. The official Scotland Supporters Club, whose members get priority in booking tickets, have already bought an incredible 36,000 seats for the game, and almost 14,000 additional tickets have been snapped up in the public sale. There are only a few remaining tickets available and these can be bought via the Scotland Ticket Hotline on 08700 131415. In addition a number of unclaimed South Stand Hampden debenture seats are available priced £32, £35 and £40. These tickets are on sale from the Scottish Football Museum Shop at Hampden between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm Monday to Saturday, and 11.00 am - 5.00 pm on Sunday.
