1913:
Scottish novelist, Oswald Wynd, was born. Wynd was born in Japan to Scots parents. He lived there for most of his youth and acquired joint citizenship. Wynd's most well-known work is 'The Ginger Tree', the tale of a Scotswoman's life in Japan in the early part of the century. He also wrote thrillers under the pseudonym Gavin Black.

A limited number of half-price Tattoo tickets go on sale
Tickets for this year’s eagerly anticipated Edinburgh Tattoo (3rd-25th August) have long since sold out. A limited number of half-price tickets for the Thursday, August 2nd preview performance of the 58th military showpiece go on sale at the Tattoo Ticket Sales Office on Edinburgh’s Market Street on Monday, 23rd July at 10am. With weeks to go before the 2007 Tattoo season opens, this occasion provides a final opportunity to obtain tickets for next month’s sold-out show. Seat prices for the preview range from £6.50 to £20.00 and, as well as box office counter sales, tickets may also be had by telephone on 08707 555 118 using a credit/debit card, which is subject to a £2.50 booking fee per transaction, or via the Internet at www.edintattoo.co.uk where the convenience fee also applies along with a limit of 4 tickets per sale. New Tattoo Chief Executive & Producer, Major General Euan Loudon, said: “This is a wonderful chance to witness the complete 2007 Tattoo at a markedly discounted price.” This year’s 90-minute show includes over 1,000 performers from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and the United Kingdom along with a colourful celebration to mark the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen and two yet to be revealed surprises from overseas.
