On Sunday 6th May 2007, the Ranger Service at Holyrood Park is inviting early birds to welcome in the new day by appreciating the delights of the dawn chorus.

The Songs for a Spring Morning event also offers a great chance to learn from the experts about the rich and varied birdlife which thrives in the capital’s largest and most popular green space.

Ranger Nathalie Taylor says: "The Park is an important natural habitat for a wonderful range of wildlife, including many species of birds. At this time of year, our bird population numbers are at their highest. And the variety of species that can be seen is also at its most diverse, with seasonal winged visitors from afar afield as Africa here to spend the summer months.

The early hours of the morning – before most people are out and about, and before the noise of the city reaches its peak – are one of the best times to bird-watch and appreciate beautiful birdsong. The height of spring is, of course, when birds are at their chirpiest as they try to attract and compete for a mate. So, weather permitting, local people and visitors who come along on Sunday morning will have a perfect opportunity to see and hear our feathered friends at their finest."

And for bird-lovers left cold by the thought of a 6am start, there's another event which will be more appealing. On Wednesday 16th May 2007, as dusk settles over the park, the Ranger Service is hosting A Song At Sunset to encourage participants to enjoy the evening birdsong.
