The Enlightenment painter, Allan Ramsay was born. His father was another Allan Ramsay, well known for his poetry. After studying in Italy, Allan Jr. became renowned as one of the best portrait painters of the Rococo era, and painted subjects as important as the future King George III.

Well-known community leader from City has stood down
A WELL-KNOWN community leader from the Capital has stood down, saying that his workload had become to heavy. Businessman David Rintoul resigned as chair of Tollcross Community Council last Tuesday, after four years in the role. He said: "It was just too much work after the council pulled the plug on our old website. "I enjoyed my time but at the end of the day I just want to have some time to myself." Source: Evening News
