Mr Hopps was due to move to the United States with his partner however became depressed after the break of the relationship which resulted in the move falling through. Mr Hopps's friends are growing increasingly concerned for his safety. He is described as white, 5'11"- 6'0" tall, medium build, balding with dark side hair and sometimes wears thick round rimmed glasses. When he went missing it is thought that he was wearing a tweed jacket, blue and white shirt, beige trousers and tan shoes. A police spokeswoman said: "We are growing increasingly concerned for Mr Hopp's safety and are keen to hear from anyone who thinks they may have seen him or heard from him since the end of May. He left his car at home and does not appear to have taken any personal possessions with him. "Mr Hopps has family links to Durham but has also holidayed in Argyll in the past."
