1788:
The first steamboat experiment was held on Dalswinton Loch. Robert Burns was farming at Ellisland, just outside Dumfries, when he was invited by his landlord, Patrick Miller, to go out in a small experimental steamboat. The boat, which was fitted with an engine designed by William Symington, was the first paddle-propelled steamboat in the world.

Princes Exchange Shoppers Car Park
The Princes Exchange is the large grey building on the east side of Earl Grey Street. The Princes Exchange Underground Car Park is situated at the rear of the Princes Exchange Building with the entrance off Riego Street. There are various routes into the car park depending on the direction you are arriving from. See map. The car park is very secure with CCTV and has modern facilities for those with an impairment including a lift to pavement level. You exit right in the centre of Tollcross. The charges are: Lost tickets will be charged at the full daily rate Opening Hours If you are unsure how to get to the CPS car park just ask a Parking Attendant and he/she will assist you in finding it. City-centre car park secures safety award There is no charge for pay and display parking on Easter Monday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or New Year's Day in Edinburgh, but payment is required on all other bank and public holidays.
