Charles Mackintosh began manufacturing waterproof coats. Mackintosh, born in Glasgow, was devoted to science for which he gave up his first job as a clerk. He began experimenting on the by-products of tar and discovered that one such by-product, Naphtha, made India rubber soluble.

Creative firm from Fountainbridge has designed new logo
A PATRIOTIC creative firm from Fountainbridge has designed the new logo for the Scottish ski team for free. After being asked by national ski coach Ross Gardner, Basestation came up with a thistle/snowflake on a blue background, with white ski lines representing the Saltire.
