Scheme will include repairs to paths, railings and lighting
A NEW phase of improvements at Calton Hill has been given the go-ahead. Councillors agreed to grant permission for the scheme, which has been established as part of a bid to spruce up one of Edinburgh's most important landmarks. The scheme will include repairs to paths, railings and lighting, as well as garden planting, and aims to improve the attractiveness and accessibility of the area. Gardens in nearby London Road and Hillside Crescent will also undergo improvements. Funding for the project, which is due for completion in May, is coming from Edinburgh City Council, Edinburgh World Heritage Trust and Scottish Natural Heritage. The first phase of the project, which involved tree planting, took place last year. The latest phase was given the go-ahead at a meeting of the city's culture and leisure committee yesterday.
